”You know, at the end of this road you can touch the clouds. It is also the end of the world” a smiling five year old boy runs to tell us, full of excitement.
We have heard a lot about the Blue Mountains, and when we finally made it to the top of that first cliff, our minds were blown away.
Last Friday morning, for the first time since arriving in Sydney, the weather was overcast. We spent the last of our money to actually take a taxi instead of the public transport to pick up our car. When we finally reached the car rental we had to check twice with the staff to confirm that IT was actually OUR van. In our minds we had this beautiful hippie van that should take us on the adventures for the weekend, but in front of us was parked a van with 8 pigs ‘making love’ painted on the side. Oh, and text saying ”Shaking bacon” written across the windows.
So, there we were, with no other choice. We just got in, filled the trunk with beans, eggs and all kinds of different canned foods and started our adventure.
The road to the Blue Mountains heads up towards the clouds; the road seemingly falling away under us as we ascended to the top of a deserted and spectacular clifftop. It’s raining and grey, the valleys shrouded in wispy clouds. But, after the beach and sunshine the backdrop provides something new and equally beautiful even if it doesn’t seem as hospitable at first glance.
